The lawn is so dominant. If you are in California, especially southern, you could remove a great deal more lawn. There is a water consumption conflict between the lawn and the succulents, and design-wise, it feels conflicted when I imagine succulents in your beds.

Nevertheless, you can design a succulent bed much the same as any bed, with taller plants in the back or center, and lower growing plants around. Not too many different kinds of plants, and some repetition -- though I would avoid the static rows seen in your saved garden photos. I recommend planting contrasting foliage colors, my favorite combination being the chalky blue-green colors with the pink to lavender shades. Or you can mix the blue-greens with oranges and the dark purples. I'm not sure how great that will look with green grass, but there you go.
