Please Help ! My floors are not level.

we shot a laser line around the bathroom to set the wall sconces. (See attached photos).

The floor is 3/4" off level. Would like us to still go by the laser line or set off the same counter top height for each vanity? The vanities face each other.

Too late to fix the unlevel floor. My contractor did not catch prior to all new tile work being done.

Is the vanity level if so make the sconces level with the vanity because that is what your eye sees

Tundra: I Believe the vanities are already installed. The question is about the sconces.

No floor is exactly level, especially in old houses. Go by the laser line. If, at some point in the future you remodel and fix the tilt, then the sconces will be crooked. Plus, nobody will be able to compare the floor to the sconces and judge that little difference 5 feet off the floor. But they will be able to see if it's off on either side of the mirror that it's right next to.

The vanity should have been set level; that's basic. The installer should always shim and/or scribe the floor-standing cabinets so that they are level. Anybody who has watched one season of This Old House knows how to do that. It's Cabinet Install 101.

We have uneven floors too, common when redoing an older house. We have one long (7 foot) vanity that is maybe 1/2 inch different in height off the floor from one end to the other. (ie the vanity is level, the floor not so much). I think our sconces are measured off the floor, not off the vanity. Can check later when I go home. But for 2 separate vanities facing each other, I'd guess you can go either way. Are your mirrors directly opposite each other or offset? Make sure you don't create a funhouse of endless mirror reflections if they are directly across from each other.

They are directly across from each other

How about the medicine cabinets? I'd locate the items relative to each vanity top. 99.9% of people will never notice items on opposing walls not aligning.

No floor is level. That's why cabinet installers use shims. If your vanities are level, your contractor did not mess up. Pay no attention to the floor and have the sconces level (same height off the vanity).

since you like more a traditional rustic style, I definitely would go with a larger face.stone.

I would not say that stacked stone is necessarily dated. I will say that its execution too often misses the mark by DIYers and the unskilled. Also, many people became victims of the trend over the past eight to ten years, where it has been used too often and inappropristely because of the mass marketing of the panels of simulated stacked stone.

I like style and designs that are pretty timeless and in a rustic traditional home, I think the right stacked stone fireplace will be times. While a sleek tiled fireplace in your home would appear to be an anachronism.

@ Kelley Dockrey -- I think you meant to post this to a fireplace discussion, not this bathroom/sconce thread! %^)
