Since there is stainless steel appliances and hardware on the cabinets try Lowes or Home Depot for stainless sheets or tiles to put on the back splash. Easy to clean, modern, timeless.

Beautiful kitchen. Go to tile store and see what speaks to you. Take some samples home and see them in different lighting situations. Day time, night time, with undercounter lights on. Things look different in your home than at the store.

Okay, I went to the tile show room today with all of your suggestions. I accidentally, posted my question twice, but the common themes between the posts seem to be reflective surface, neutral tone- but some color, and clean lines. They suggested this grayish mushroom color tile. The smaller hex for above the range and a beveled subway tile in the same color. I brought home the white also, but realize that it really just emphasizes that my counter tops and cabinets are a slightly different shade of white. They also threw in the chevron limestone tile just to try. I like the pattern, just not feeling the tile. Hit or miss? P.s. For those of you who think the wall looks green in my dinning room, it is actually khaki, but it must read a little green.

You seem to know what you like and what you don't like so I think you should just take your time. Your kitchen is very clean looking and if you want to keep it that way pick a backsplash that complements the neutral tones of your space (lighter, brighter, natural, neutral tones). If you want a bit more colour or pizzazz then go with something a bit more adventurous ...... maybe something darker - a brown, a more textured tile, use more natural stone tiles with a bit of a dark accent colour thrown in for contrast.

Craigslist can have amazing deals on bar stools. Just check every day and see what you find. $100 is not a big budget but I recently found three lovely brown leather bar stools for a client for $80!

Can you share your pictures when you are finished?

I would suggest penny tiles or ledge stone rock.

I'm going through the same process now, not sure if you like the glass look but I found a few that I think would look nice with your two toned cabinets.

Color: Mist (not gray nor is it beige, it's in between).

Once you narrow it down, I'd also consider grout colors. If you want the design to pop then I'd do a lighter grout if you don't then I would match the grout to the tile color.

Also, target.com has a good selection of stools and often have discounts posted online.

Your kitchen is beautiful. Since everything is so neutral here is a tile I think would be stunning in your kitchen. It would compliment the floor color, the white cabinets and the khaki wall color.

For bar stools, since you have young kids, I would suggest something that has an adjustable height option. It can be tucked under the island when not in use.

I think a clean glass tile would bring a lot of color and interest to the backsplash. Our Impact series comes in many different colors. I chose Impact 'Storm Metal' which has some stainless steal in the mosaic and would accent the cabinet hardware and appliances.

Green will work well too! The Gem series is a little more matte than Impact but has a great glimmer in the tile.

Another option is to go with a 3x6 subway stile tile. It's classic and beautiful. I love the herringbone pattern on a backplash. Our Blanco series comes in classic white but if you're interested in more color options, our Color & Dimensions series has many options!
