Custom Hardware Option

Can this hardware be configured to hang from the ceiling? My kitchen has about a 7 ft opening to the dining/living area. The ceiling is flat and it is possible the attach lumber for an exposed beam look but I would like to know if it has to be done, when I am ready to install the door. Thanks!
