Fabric help?

Scramble Citrus Fabric by Annie Selke · More Info

We have just sold both our vacation condo and our traditional home and bought a 45 year old colonial. I am trying to reuse my existing furniture/decor as I can. We want to paint all the rooms BM Grey Owl or a lighter version of Stonington Gray. I could use some help with coming up with a plan for reusing these custom curtains in a bedroom, please. I still love them although the fabric has been discontinued. Annie Selke Scramble Citrus. It's a grass green with off white. I am just looking to figure out another fabric that will pull the curtains together with the gray for pillows or bedding. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Here's a link to a google search that will show many that would work and, you can find your own print among them. gray and citrus green fabrics.

@yayagal - I tried that before with green and gray and was not nearly successful as trying your suggestion adding the word citrus- thank you!

@lukkiirish - Those are lovely ideas! I think that is good advice to consider the gray just a neutral backdrop - I can get caught up in trying to be too precise. The plum is especially appealing. The curtains were from our vacation condo that I based all the decor off of Wonderland Pearl. I am thinking I want to take it all down a notch now that I am in Connecticut! Although I do still love this fabric! Goes better with beige than grey, I think?

I was able to reuse it in our new sunroom :) We just moved in last week, still unpacking.

Well, I'm glad I was of some help. I think that Wonderland Pearl is a beautiful fabric and I can see why you love it. I could be wrong, but I actually don't think it would be a problem to use it or any of the colors in it with the gray especially if it's for bedding or pillows. It may not be good for window treatments that are right up next to it but as an accessory fabric, why not? If you really love it and the things you want to use in the new house are schemed with it, why not keep it? It looks beautiful on the ottoman above, very classic and upscale. (Love that room and all the windows btw)

If you are really ready for a change though, do some searches for pictures of a variety of fabrics or bedding that you like and post them with another pic of your drapery and paint colors. Then we can help you narrow down your choices.

@lukkiirish, That is where my dilemma stems from - I don't have enough furniture from the condo to fill the house. Most of my furniture is more traditional/darker - while the condo was more pottery barn/RH, as I purchased it more recently. I am trying to keep each room one style or the other. I really love the new trend toward all neutrals too. I am obviously conflicted :) Trying to make it all work and in completely different sized rooms than the other homes is a little challenging. All while on a budget :( Thank you! (And we bought the house because of that sunroom! - the driveway is ridiculously steep, but the sunroom is worth it - at least until the winter)

When we moved into our house on top of a ton of renovations, I had a similar issue of trying to mix the old with the new. It can certainly get pretty overwhelming, so just focus on making a plan for one room at a time and trust it will come together. You can mix old with new, work within a budget and still have beautiful results.

So..back to your original post where you said you need fabric ideas for bedding and pillows to go with the curtains you posted. What bedroom is this for? What style is the room going to be? Do you already have furniture for the room? Can you post a pic of it, so we can have more of a visual?

BTW, my house is on a hill with a 150 foot drive that is steep as well. I love the view or that we'll never have water in our basement, but it really is NOT FUN IN SNOW! :c)

Good idea - let me put some photos together. Thanks!

There are 4 bedrooms in the house. The master, BR 1 and BR 2 - rooms that are pretty identical, and a small bedroom 3 that I want to double as a craft room. Bedroom 1 is where I want to use the green curtains. Our kids are out of the house and live far away, so the 3 extra bedrooms need to be guest rooms for them and other out of town family. Thanks!

This is a fabric that looks like it would work well with the green, but it's been around awhile, so I am not sure if it's too dated. I think I want to replace the nightstand between the beds with something a little bigger.

That fabric is gorgeous and it does work beautifully with the curtain fabric. It would be pretty for pillows and a cover on the chair seat. Maybe for the beds you could use some simple white bedding with a coordinating blanket at the foot. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the age of the fabric if you like it, especially because the context of the way it's being used will be fresh and current or classic and timeless.

Have you ever painted furniture? If it were me, I might paint the dresser but I'd probably use a coordinating color from the fabric, maybe even a very light tone of the citrus so it's repeated again in the room. If done right, it could have a very sophisticated look.

Again, more great advice @lukkiirish! Thank you...I actually had planned on painting that dresser as I saved the crib for all these years for my future grandchildren and of course, now the crib is not usable. Pic below is from when we sold our house and staged the smallest bedroom. But I am going to re-use the ends to make the twin headboards and had planned on painting it because something will need to be added to to the width of the crib to fit a twin. I am loving all the chalk paint out there and actually took an Annie Sloan workshop and have tried a few small projects.

I have another possibility with the fabric and that is to go with some black accents. I have this toile/check chair and some extra fabric in a larger check. I am considering these florals. But I am not sure if adding the chair will make the room too crowded.

Well, there you go! I think you have a great plan evolving, your ideas are right up my alley. I love repurposing like that, though I haven't used the chalk paint, I have refinished some wood pieces and it was quite fun. Those pieces will be beautiful regardless of the color you choose to paint them.

Regarding the chair, gingham is one of my all time favorite prints and I love it with the toile, but I don't think any of those the fabrics or the black work with the curtain fabric. The style of the chair is a good fit but the fabrics don't seem to gel as well with the other pieces you're utilizing. If you don't have your heart set on using the chair as is, maybe you could put a slip cover over it. Keeps your costs down and the options open for later fabric wise.

The first fabric you posted above is a perfect fit (to the eye) and really kind of captured the influences you said you're leaning towards earlier. Perfect for a quiet and serene room.

You're right @lukkiirish....I was just trying to make that chair work. I love the feel of the first fabric, but I am not loving the brown in it...but it's a contender. I have a few more options, but the existing Scramble curtains have an off white background and I want to be careful I don't get too stark of a white. I will have to get some samples. The bottom 2 below are pretty colorful and I guess if I am considering those 2, I might as well stay with Wonderland Pearl and move on to the next room. Thank you for hanging in there with me as I mull this over.

Oh you're welcome, too bad no one else is chiming in, not sure why. Of the samples you posted, I like the Lakia Pool, it's pretty and the bohemian influence is really in right now...but I still think you really nailed it with the fabric on that pillow. Even though I like your orignal fabric too, I actually like the way the one on the pillow looks with the curtains better.

In regards to the brown, again, if you're wanting a more earthy, even slightly rustic feel, tan with gray will do that. You may need to settle on a style first before choosing the fabric. Serene and slightly rustic or fun and sassy.

Don't know if you're still working on this, but Pottery Barn got in some new duvet covers and I thought of you and your project.. You may want to go check them out, there's a couple there that might work with your curtain fabric beautifully.

I've always loved the Scramble fabric. Out of all the fabrics you posted my absolute, hands down favorite is the first one. It is so classy looking and the colors look fab with your citrus scramble. My next favorite is the Latkia Pool. There are many pretty matelasse quilts that lean ivory rather than stark white if you want to go with a plain spread.

Good luck with your project, I think it is going to look gorgeous!

I guess the Clarice Dove is loved by all. It would be a clear winner as it looks great on the computer, but in real life, my sample is very brown/yellow and and not the pretty blue & gray in the online picture. I think my sample may be focusing on the part of the pattern I don't care for. I will drag my curtains in and compare to the bigger sample. Thank you @Holly- Kay for the advice on the ivory vs white debate.

hmmm...I see what you're saying.. huh...well that doesn't look the same as the first picture at all does it. Now I can see why you're struggling. I know that there are some Calico Corner shops in Conn, would one happen to be reasonably close to you? I'm really thinking that it might behoove you to take your curtain or a good sized swatch of the fabric to Calico or a similar type store so one of the consultants can help you narrow down a fabric.

This is one of the duvet's from PB that I thought might work with the curtains

@lukkiirish - thank you for validating my wishy washyness! I sadly lost my sample of Scramble so I have to drag the full curtain panel around - they are fully lined and 9 ft long, so they're heavy. There is a Calico very close to me which is where I got the Clarice Dove sample from, so that's on the agenda. AND I just saw this new Thistle pattern when I was in Pottery Barn Thursday and loved it! It's has the right feel. Of course, I didn't have the curtain panel with me. The Thistle might be too white or maybe I should stop fretting over that. I should have just bought a sham and brought it home. Oh wait, the duvet doesn't come in a twin size. That would limit me to just the shams, but it would give me some fun colors to pull from to add to the green.

WHAAAAAT it doesn't come in a twin????!!!!!. Say it isn't so! that is ridiculous!. I'm so sorry, it's beautiful and really caught my attention but I wouldn't have suggested it if I had known. Did you see on their site that they offer free decor services? An option maybe?

Glad there is a Calico by you, maybe they'll have something similar to the print of the PB duvet that could work.
