Stone Post Construction

Could you please describe the stone post construction? Are these posts substantial enough to hold an iron gate? Is it real stone? The project shown is very attractive. My initial posts would be for a different purpose. I am considering durability and minimizing upkeep as well as the aesthetics of a plan. Any information you can share would be appreciated.
