Help choosing Kitchen Appliances

I purchased my first home and I will be moving in later this month. I have no experience with appliances and I'm becoming overwhelmed with the showroom options. Today I looked at the Frigidaire Professional series. Any thoughts on this package? If it isn't recommended please offer some suggestions for the best dishwasher (max budget $1000), best gas stove (max $3000) and best counter depth 36" fridge (max $2500). Thanks

Congrats on your new home,. Why are you changing the current appliances? Are you an avid cook? There are a ton of threads on the forum about different appliances. You have to tell us what you are looking for in new appliances?

    homepro01,

Thanks :). The house doesn't come with any appliances. I cook dinner 6 days a week and I hope to use my dishwasher once a day, everyday. I looked at the other threads and I feel more overwhelmed. I see that my plan to go with the same brand for each piece of appliance may not be a good idea. In the price ranges that I mentioned I was hoping to get suggestions on which brand to go with for the dishwasher, stove and fridge.

Starting with the dishwasher, I like the Bosch line. You can spend as much or as little as you desire. I would suggest one of their mid-range models. Take one of your dishes down to the showroom to determine how well it will fit into the trays. I don't have one, but a lot of posters seem to like the third shelf in the top. You might want to look at one of those models.

    Sasmae,

Thanks for the update. For the dishwasher, I recommend the Miele. Many on the Forum love the Bosch 800 series. My advice is to go to a showroom and put your dishes in both of these dishwashers and see which one has the best configuration I love my cutlery tray so I would only look at dishwashers that have that feature. Do you have hard or soft water? If you have hard water, consider a unit with a built in water softener. There are a few Miele units in your price point but I am not sure they have water softeners. Bosch also has water softeners in many of their units. Also, the Miele dishwashers come with a standard plug rather than other dishwashers that are hard wired. Make sure you get an electrician to put in an outlet if your current configuration is hard wired. I am not sure if the Bosch requires a plug or is hard wired.

I am not an expert when it comes to ranges. I have a cooktop oven combination. I think getting a dual fuel in the $3k range may be a little difficult. Have you played around with an induction cooktop? If not, I would suggest playing around with one in a showroom and see if you like it. Bosch and Electrolux ranges get consistent reviews on the forum. I would also try to find a showroom in your area with working gas appliances so you can test them out. This can be really hard but if possible, it will give you an option to test out the ranges for the things you cook. Many showrooms have working induction ranges/cooktops to try out.

Did you plan for a hood for your cooktop? An externally vented hood is preferred when adding newer appliances that perform at higher btus. There are many threads about hoods. Search for Kaseki to get some of his wonderful posts on what is important when getting a hood.

Do you have the exact measurement for the space where your fridge will fit? You will need this to go fridge shopping. Fridges vary widely in size and this will impact your options. Your likes and dislikes will also play a role. I personally don't like external water or ice dispensers in a fridge, so this would eliminate many fridges from my selection. Do you store more produce or prepackaged foods? This will impact what you are looking for inside the fridge and freezer space. Many have complained about newer fridges being noisy, would noise affect you? For the fridge, I would come up with a list of must haves and then review the available options. There are no clear winners in the fridge arena. Another thing to look for is whether the fridge needs to be counter depth, built in, integrated or if a standard depth fridge would work in your configuration.

    Do you need a microwave?

I know it can be overwhelming but if you do one appliance at a time, it would be easier to make decisions.

    Good luck!

How big a range are you looking for? You say no appliances ... but you have cabs?

    Bosch dishwashers have electrical plugs.

FWIW I took a poll on a Facebook cooking group inquiring if people had a Bosch, KA or Miele dishwasher as these were the only brands that I was considering. We were replacing our Mieke and I wanted a good choice with a cutlery tray -- once you have one you will love it.

There were a number of Bosch owners who had major troubles and therefore unhappy The KA under consideration was $200 more than the Miele, so we bought the Miele Futura and love it

    Thanks Homechef for the confirmation.

I'd go with the Miele DW. I also suggest looking at induction vs gas. I'm a Bosch fan for cooking. Fridges are the hard part, and you definitely need a vent hood that vents out, not recirculating.

Don't laugh.. but for under 2500 you can get an awesome Maytag slide in range that has two ovens. I mean, if I was not going 48" and capital, I'd definitely, at the very least, get a darn good double oven range.

The budget savings.. you can easily get a nice Bosch 500 series dishwasher. Can't go wrong with that. That leaves PLENTY for a french door or 3-door fridge....and a nice Microwave.

You have plenty of budget to get all that, and max out any in-store warranties and still have money left over.
