Thuja emerald

I was wondering if I could plant my Thuja emerald in front of my fence. It gets full sun there but would the back side get burnt up due to the heat that the fence would give off? I have daylillies there now with a birdbath. What else to plant with it? I live in zone 5 Illinois. Thanks.
