Copper Wire Use In Garden

T M

Hello fellow gardeners. I just finished installing a drip irrigation system in my garden when it occurred to me that using leftover copper electrical wire scraps to stake my tubing might not have been the best idea. I didn't want to pay for the plastic stakes that the drip irrigation company makes and I had the copper wire scraps so I thought I was being clever.

I did a google search and couldn't come up with any info on using copper as stakes, but there are warnings against planting directly in copper pots and how as copper oxidizes it leaches into the ground and can kill roots.

I'm wondering if this small amount of copper could be harmful. It's staked pretty close to the roots because I need the dripper as close as possible. Does anyone have a comment?

Thanks, Tom
