It makes perfect sense. I know that if I wanted to find out about apples, I would search under "P" for picking apples.

This was discussed back when the switch first happened (took me a while to find the link). The official name for the tomato forum has always been "Growing Tomatoes" and a link to the forum was always under "G". Houzz "cleaned up" the forum directory and removed the second link to this forum that was under "T" for "Tomatoes".

Yeah been discussed often and Carolyn's post in the thread Rodney linked pretty much cover it. Spike's explanation back then was that "all the questions seem to be about "growing tomatoes" so it seemed logical at the time and there were only 4 or 5 total forums so no big deal.

After all these years it is too ingrained in the advertising and the search engines to change it. But it isn't all that difficult to browse through the index of forums. If more folks took the time to do it even once they might discover all sorts of interesting forums exist here. :-)

It's clearly keyword stuffing and done for SEO purposes. You can see it in every forum topic created. The simple answer is that people search for "growing tomatoes" or "how to grow tomatoes" more then they do "tomato growing" and it helps get more traffic to the forums. and yea, it causes it a major disconnect within the forums.

Except that the forum was created way back when the concept of keyword stuffing was in its infacny. And SEO concepts were non-existent for the most part. Back then DMOZ and similar user-created search engines were just getting started - I worked on several of them - and Google and spiders weren't even a gleem in someone's eye yet. ;-)

This is, as someone implied, annoying.

I have found that under ''T'' there is a tomato pest forum that has a link at the top to growing tomatoes.

I think under ''V'' there is a vegetable forum that links to growing tomatoes.
