I just re-did my galley kitchen with white shaker cabinets, quartz counters (with specks of green and grey glass), and green glass mosaic tile backsplash. Bought all white appliances and put down a honey oak floor. The "classic" floor balances all the white. It looks awesome! I also bought a 1950's chrome and Formica table and chairs since I didn't want a wood table on the wood floors. The mixed materials looks awesome! Good luck!!!

I've had several clients who have refinished their oak floors and stained with Classic Gray stain, one coat. Whether it's red or white oak it looks really nice. If you aren't sure, the key is to find an installer that will put stain samples on your floor instead of picking from a fan deck of stains. Then I would look at refacing your cabinets if you cannot afford new cabinets. That way you can get rid of the traditional arch in the doors and pick any wood/stain combo you want. Even a rift oak which has a much more linear grain is beautiful and an update from the old flamed oak. I would remove the fluorescent lights and put can lights in. And if you have the budget, get rid of the peninsula, extend the kitchen down toward the dining room and put an island in if you have the room. Hard to get a feel for dimensions in a photo.

Thanks! We plan to remove the lights and install sky lights. Having sample stains on floor is a good idea!

Should I consider painting the cabinets white? Or would a wooden finish look nicer?
