Someone may chime in otherwise, but I am pretty sure you will be just fine.

My mom fed a hoya nothing but miracle grow plant sticks for 20 years.

I wouldn't fertilize for a bit, at least not until the plant started looking like it needed it. Flush the pot and let it drain well when you do water if you are nervous, this will help leach out excess nutrients.

I think another issue with compost is increased water retention, but in a 4" pot it shouldn't be too bad. Especially not if you had them in a fast draining mix to begin with.

Oh gosh, and you said teaspoons and not tablespoons. I doubt that would be enough to be terribly harmful, truly. Only a carnivorous plant would suffer with that small an amount. Your babies will be fine. :)

WHEW! I feel such relief! Thank you for your answers! And yes, I do have them in a fast draining mix. I have to water them about every 4 days, now that California has heated up and they're in a partially shaded west window, so this may actually be a good thing! I will certainly flush them well if I notice any yellowing. Thanks again, and I won't fertilize for a couple of months!

Just watch your plants, they are good at "telling" you what they need. Of course, I myself am still learning to listen. Its always a process, and you've just gotta love these boards for being able to trade tips, trials, and tributes.

I've put compost in with my Hoyas before and never had any ill effects. It's really just another way to feed them. When I've done this, I'll put 2 or 3 heaping tablespoons in a big pot, a couple 2 or 3 teaspoons in a small pot, so I think you're right on.
