I can't tell how big your room is but it looks large, so I immediately thought of this photo I saved. I pictured it built in front of your closets, creating a hall/dressing area behind it where the closets are and just having your bed moved into the center of the room. Lights and storage built into the front,too. There would still be a beautiful view of the windows and you could move the dresser to the wall where the headboard currently is. You might even have room for a cozy chair in that window area. Low so as not to block your view. Hope this makes sense. I love this site!

Suggestion above is only good way to keep bed in alcove in orientation you like. Build a custom headboard wall and paint it the same color as your walls but in a glossy finish.

You can extend the headboard to the top of the closet height - about 6' 8" / 80" typically and bring it out to just shy of the drawer area of the dressing room - the depth of the alcove plus the width of the first closet plus the wall between less 8"). Put about 1' wide nightstand drop down on the window side, so you can make the bed, and on this end make the end table up to 30" wide, with traditional corbel supports underneath, but perhaps curve the outside corner. Upholster an off-center headboard in the tall headboard wall in a classic linen or hopsack so you can sit up in bed comfortably. Use the same fabric to upholster a short bench (footboard substitute) for the wall where the little white plant stand is now. Trim the top of the headboard wall with a layered crown moulding that extends around the corner to the back out in the room. Include the shelving seen above and display vintage elements and books.

A beautiful layered bed (comforter, folded quilt, skirt like you have plus euro sham pillows plus sleeping pillows) is the secret to making this funky sideways bed alcove thing work - add built in reading lamps to the new headboard. Paint the alcove ceiling a pale sky blue and move your rug so it starts under the edge of the bed. Make sure the bed skirt always covers - since you don't have to worry about the back side, you can cut the center and shift it around.

Where the little brown table is now by the closet, you can add a tall shelving unit for clothing and put lighting off the top of it too, since this area will now officially be a "walk in closet" If that helps with storage you should eliminate the chest on the brick hearth wall and put a great wing chair and ottoman there with a floor lamp.

Paint out the white trim by the closet built ins (since you have the wood ceilings) in the same color as the wall. You've a charming aerie, and there's no reason not to enjoy it the way you like it. Use the green-gray and lavender plus a touch of periwinkle blue for your color palette when you upholster the wing chair in some gorgeous wide stripe.
