Hydrangeas and window boxes only add curb appeal in the summer. I would improve the bushes you already have. Take off the shutters off the door, they give a funny look because of the transom. I would also take the ones off the windows, but that is just my taste. There is no where to add shutters to 2nd floor windows but I would paint the trim to match the 1st floor trim. I would also paint the door a brighter color.

Window boxes would be nice on the two lower windows. Just plant something that has green and/or blooms year round. We had boxwood under our window boxes in a previous home with ivy geranium planted in the boxes. Year round green on both as well as blooms on the ivy geranium. We kept the boxwood trimmed to just below the window boxes.

I agree with jck10's comments on the shutters on the door and second floor windows. I think they're fine on the first floor windows. After removing the shutters from the door, place planters/urns to flank the door...maybe plant with topiaries or something with colorful blooms. Very cute house!

You have a wonderful house! Please go to the Colonial Williamsburg website and check out the appearance of the homes in the historic village. Yours is identical in structure and style to many of those located there. Look at shutter placement, house body and trim colors, plantings, etc. I can see your home with a formal boxwood hedge and early American floral plantings. Check out, too, how the village decorates homes for the holidays with natural foliage, apples, oranges, nuts, berries, nuts, etc. Enjoy the process of enhancing your lovely home!
