This is a close-up of the flower.

This is a close-up of the leaves. This is in New Jersey 6B. Thanks!

Columbine? They self-seed. The leaves don't look healthy.

Thank you. I thought the leaves looked like Columbine that is why I let it continue to grow. But the flowers don't resemble my other Columbines.

There are so many different flower forms. And they will hybridize if there are few different ones around.

It is likely Aquilegia vulgaris 'Nora Barlow' in one of her many colors. They seed and if you have more than one species Aquilegia will often cross with each other creating interesting permutations.

Thank you. I will check to see which kinds of Columbine I sowed last year.

It is definitely Aquilegia vulgaris. As others have said there is a wide variety of flower forms. They are very promiscuous and it isn't necessarily possible to give a cultivar name to any particular one if grown from seed. The plant is not happy, probably due to being grown in a small container. I'd plant it in the ground if at all possible.

Thank you, now that I am sure of what it is I will plant it in the ground asap. I found it growing in one of my winter sowing jugs from last year -- I may have even removed other plants with some soil from that jug last fall, so it likely has been growing in some adverse conditions. I'll give it a happy new home! :D

Everyone is so informative and helpful -- thank you very much!
