Does Luce Di Luna HONED etch??

I found a slab of HONED Luce Di Luna. I would love to know from those who have it or those who are very familiar with it whether or not it will etch from something acidic (like lemon juice). I was told by the showroom that the POLISHED will show etching (and I experienced that with a polished sample), and that the HONED will etch but that the etching really isn't noticeable because the stone isn't changing texture when it gets etched. I would love to experiment with a sample of the honed, but they don't have any!

We are not an extremely messy family, but truth be told spills do NOT always get cleaned up right away (two kids and a busy lifestyle). Our daughter loves to experiment in the kitchen, and I don't want to be standing over her all the time scared of what might happen. Having said that, I do really, really like the stone!

Would love to hear from people who have been living with this or pros familiar with it.

Honing does not prevent etching. Etching is dissolving of the surface by acids.

@sophie wheeler - it's hard for me to tell. Is this a picture of etching on honed quartzite? Do you know what caused it? The showroom did tell me that quartzite will etch, but that when it's honed it just isn't noticeable. Any thoughts?

Update for anyone who is interested: I got a sample of Luce di Luna, honed, and put a small drop of lemon juice on it and left it there for a bit. It etched terribly and I would imagine it would be noticeable even on a large honed surface. If you aren't really good about cleaning up after yourself (I simply am not a perfectionist this way), you may do better selecting something else. I ended up getting Glacier White Granite for the island (after lots of discussions about other options). I didn't like the garnet spots in it at first, but now am starting to appreciate them an realize they really are beautiful (they're garnets, after all!).

May I ask where you were able to find a sample of Luce di Luna honed? I'm not having any luck.

Boy it’s been a while. I would have gotten that at a local showroom in Seattle - probably either Meta or Daltile or possibly Pental.
