Bathroom Storage: Problems?

I am completing a product design and technology project at my college and I really need some feedback.

I want to design and manufacture a bathroom storage device that caters to a relatively large family (roughly 5-6 people) however due to the height differences, ages, genders etc. this may be difficult to achieve.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the problems they have with their storage in their bathrooms currently, such as not having enough space to put their toiletries away or not having enough room in the bathroom for a cupboard etc.

Any advice/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Places like Home Depot selling vanities with drawers that are so small that you can't even fit a roll of toilet paper in them for storage of extra rolls (the storage that would be easily reached from the toilet).

Bathroom storage is often narrow and deep. Things get put in the back and can't be accessed. Drawers instead of cabinets would help with this or relatively (but not too) shallow shelves.

One thing we did was to put a drawer in the bottom of the vanity. The kids kept their tub things in there since they could reach it easily. Our cabinet maker added a solid pull out (similar to a pullout cutting board in a kitchen) on the top of this drawer so that the kids could use it as a step stool to reach the sink. If I'd been rich, I'd have had him add this to other storage cabinet in the bathroom as well.

My new house has a lot of bathroom storage, but the items that seem the most difficult to find a place for are the 10 pack of toilet paper and the plunger because of their sizes.

    1. Definitely giving towels enough space to "breathe". With so many people sometimes you have to hang multiple towels on the same rack, worried the effect it could have on cleanliness..,.,

    2. Like others have said, I'd much prefer wide instead of deep. Multiple bodies in the room you want to be able to grab exactly what you want, and having to reach far into the back of the drawer is a pain.

Looking forward to seeing the result! Bathroom organization is an area that has a ton of room for improvement.

Daisychain provides some great suggestions for family accommodations.

I don't have specific measurements but the photos linked below of our Master Bathroom may give some helpful ideas. There are comments below many photos offering some explanation about what we did. The vanity and linen cabinet photos should be the most useful in your project.

    Good luck.

It's very cool looking, but I don't understand it. Can you explain how it works?

Yes, how does it work and how is it installed? To be honest it doesn't look like it would solve storage problems.
