I've recently purchased many hoya cuttings and some rooted plants. I've also recently learned that many, if not most, prefer to climb rather than hang. So I have a couple of questions:
Is there a general rule or a list tell if a species is ok with hanging in a pot? I've read that the apical meristems can die, or maybe just go dormant, if the vines hang down instead of pointing upwards. Some I can tell as they show their desire to climb (on whatever is around), but others are not so obvious.
Also, I have some rooted cuttings, like single rooted vines that may or may not have branched, that are long that I would like to trellis before they get too big to manipulate, but they are in 6" pots - some of which maybe could have stayed in 4" pots another year. And almost none have been in their new pots long enough to really establish themselves yet. But I bought a bunch of 4' bamboo hoop trellises (they were $4 for a 4-pack, so I couldn't pass them up!), the sticks are pretty thick and putting them in a 6" pot makes them very awkward/top-heavy and they tip easily. I'm planning on cutting 2' off of each that I need and using 4 bottom halves to make a trellis and 2 top halves to make a trellis. So I'm wondering if I should actually USE those biggish trellises in the smaller pots, or get some 8" azalea pots and move them to those pots so the trellises aren't so awkward.

Any suggestions?
