My neighbors have that really bad too, one of them calls it carpet grass. I have no idea how accurate that is, I always thought it looked like coastal Bermuda or some other pasture grass. It tries to come into my back yard from a green space & I pull it, followed by a zap with glyphosate. If I had it mixed with my Bermuda like my neighbors I'm not sure how I'd attack it.

Yes, it is called torpedo grass. Im sorry to say that once it is set in you are done for. Unless you kill the entire yard and keep killing it till all the rizomes are dead. I have kept in under control in my backyard, but I cant totall stop it. Mostly use round up on it, but there is another stronger herbicide that is reommended if you search on google. I gave up in my front yard. Its too intertwined with the St Augustine to control. Just mow regularly and no one will notice is my best advice

Torpedo grass is almost certainly one of the varieties of bermuda crossbred for extremely high productivity as an animal forage. The closest thing we have in Texas is called coastal bermuda. It is very happy growing very tall or munched down very short. The higher you mow the lawn the less weedy it "should" look. The St Augustine will provide some shade to the bermuda. If you are lucky it will be enough to shade out the plant altogether. Common bermuda is no match at all for any kind of St Augustine when the lawn is mowed at the mower's highest setting. My lawn is a perfect example. It started out as prairie grasses and bermuda. Now it is all St Aug.

While it looks very similar to coastal Bermuda, I dont think it is the same. Ive actually read that this is a poor forage grass, whereas coastal is a superior and highly desired forage grass. Whatever this is does not succumb to thick st Augustine like common Bermuda does. I actually like having common bermuda mixed in my st Augustine because its such a disease prone grass. The bermuda rapidly fills in any bare spots then dies back when it gets healthy again.
