Quartz Composite Sink?

Anyone have one? My KD was talking about how great they are so we told her to go ahead and include it in the quote. I originally wanted a Apron Sink, but that would require non-porus countertops and we are going with Laminate for the quote since I think we are going way over budget and are just starting. I like porcelain (like grandma used to have) I dont' like the look of stainless, but may consider it since its easy to clean. I really want the sink light colored, so is anyone using a light colored quartz composite at the moment? Likes? Dislikes? Thanks

I can tell you that the Blanco Silgranit granite composite sinks are really great. They come in a number of colors. The "Biscuit" color is similar to the color of "grandma's porcelain sink" that you mentioned. There is also a White in Silgranit. Also, I read on this forum that Blanco has just come out with a Silgranit apron front sink. Finally! But I did not get your statement at all "an Apron Front sink would require non-porous countertops".

Perhaps what you meant is that you can't do an undermount sink with laminate counters? That's true. No problem though because several of the Silgranit sinks can be either undermounted or surface-mounted, so can be installed with laminate counters. The Silgranit BlancoDiamond Super Single is one. That model also has the excellent corner drain (called an "offset drain"). You'll love it.

But you must figure out first your sink base cabinet size. The BlancoDiamond Super Single needs a 33" cabinet I believe.

Sometimes a level 1 granite is just as inexpensive as a laminate countertop. Do some research.

Thank you both I will look into it more. My KD told me that an apron sink required a non porous countertop, I just assumed she knew what she was talking about and that the edges would be exposed along the sides. The place I am getting my building materials from is limited on its kitchen ideas, but I needed a starting place for pricing so just started there, I will do more research once I get even an ballpark idea on prices.

Great Jeyne. It is helpful to have as much knowledge as you can. There are so many decisions to be made.

I want to reiterate what I said above - your choice of kitchen sink must start with your sink base cabinet size. There have been so many threads from posters kicking themselves that they didn't pay attention to that measurement when looking at their kitchen design. Then they were stuck with a too-small sink base cabinet, and were trapped and hampered in their sink choices.

I think a good-sized sink is so crucial to the entire functioning and enjoyment of a kitchen, that I would forego something else in order to have a 33" or 36" sink cabinet base, no smaller.

There are a lot of silgranit fans on this board. However, when I saw it in a showroom the plasticy look and feel was a turn off. I preferred porcelain or enameled cast iron.
