Hi Cricket, I obtained a Tiny Dancers this spring and although it hasn't grown much I've had no trouble with it. That said, if there are a lot of complaints about it there might just be some difficulties we don't know about. As a new grower, you might consider avoiding it.

Offer still stands on A. cucullata. It's easy and a smaller grower. The two plumbea's don't get too large in pot culture, Nigra is especially pretty and both are easy.

Thanks Russ, 'T.D.' was the only "common" one in googling that listed an height of just 12". Wonder if it was a single gene mutation, or some sort of interference due to a specific hybridization.

Mine is a little over a foot tall now. I don't know the background of it but you've piqued my interest now, I'll see if I can find out what the story is. I'll let you know if I get an offset.

I just got a tiny dancer a couple of months ago too. It hasn't grown much but it hasn't died either. I think it's grown 1 new leaf since I got it. It was a little damaged in the shipping process. Let me see if I have a pic.

Looks good!! This is obviously a VERY slow-growing alocasia. No wonder it's not very common. Being small and having the cute little leaves, it would be very popular if it was faster growing and offset regularly. I found mine earlier in spring at a local large landscape nursery so don't know much about it, but I'll bet it only produces one or two offsets at a time, maybe that many in an entire summer.
