I have the same thing at my house, except that I dug them up and had planned to move them to a different location. They are now growing in a plastic bag at the edge of my garden. I need to plant those today. LOL

The ones I dug up a few years ago sat in a wheelbarrow under the pecan tree. I sort of forgot about them. At some point, the wheelbarrow got knocked over and the cannas fell to the ground under the pecan tree. It likely was autumn by then. I left them there. They sprouted, rooted into the soil and grew. They are still there, and I guess they dug themselves into the ground because I never planted them in the ground, but you cannot see them sitting on top of the ground either.

You've gotta love cannas. They won't die and you can't kill them.

I wish I could keep them alive. I've had several really pretty ones over the years that have either died or been eaten by gophers.

Love cannas I have them everywhere. I take any that are being given away. Yes, they are very hardy and will spread, but its ok because it just gives you more cannas!!!!

Dorothy, It must be the gophers because I know you have a green thumb and can grow anything.

Someone posted a question on a forum once, "how do I grow cannas?" So I replied with my "tried and true" steps.

Dump bulbs on the ground. Very poor soil with little nutrients is best. Stomp on them until they have good contact with the ground. Ignore them all season, and do not water them. In the fall, divide the bulbs by yanking them out of the ground and breaking them into pieces. In a couple years you'll have more than you can plant.
