i would blame the geo pot.. and inherent watering problems.. along with transplant shock ... long before i would think they are hungry ...

a little of this or that wont do any harm .. and a water sol would do it fastest ...

your common balanced ferts are not plant specific [those that claim to be are snake oil marketing..imo] ... use what you have.. but not 29-0-0 lawn fert is never used in the garden ... see how its not balanced ...

The Calibrachoas are in the ground, ken.

njitgrad, have you evaluated the conditions offered by the existing soil? Does it drain well, is it porous, etc.

Last year I grew Petunias from the local nursery and they thrived in the soil. The Calibrachoa I started from seed and planted in the same spot must be still undergoing transplant shock...but a whole month later? I'll have to post pics later today.

Ken talks about transplant shock a lot. To be honest, most plants shouldn't skip a beat when transplanted! Especially bedding plants.....annuals and perennials.

I've said before that I have never experienced this problem in all my years as a professional horticulturist or a back yard grower. As long as the soil at the site drains well, and is watered appropriately, as long as the plants have been properly hardened to outdoor conditions, and aren't handled roughly at transplanting, new transplants should thrive right away.

I would examine the soil and drainage at the planting site, njit. If you are confident that all is as it should be, then the problem could very well be nutritional.

I grow a few of my own annuals and tender perennials every year from seed, only about six or seven hundred. I roll everybody outside for the last couple of weeks or more, depending on the weather. By the time I plant them, they are all fully conditioned to sun, cold, wind, and rain.

My native soil is clayey, but drains very nicely.

Use any soluble fertilizer to give your plants a fast dose and apply it with your watering can. I use Milorganite on the flower beds a couple of times a season. But everything is fertilized with a soluble soup of organics and humic acid, applied through an injector and my ancient walking sprinkler.
