Bottle trap disaster

I bought a beautiful Porcelanosa vanity but when my contractor opened it we realized that the hole for the bottle trap was much higher than the actual bottle trap coming out from our wall (which is at about 14 inches from the floor). Porcelanosa comes from Spain. Are these traps higher in Europe. Is this the problem? Why didn't they tell me when I bought it? Or does the problem come from the fact that my own bottle trap is unusually low? Why the height of the back hole is not usually specified for vanities? Is the height of the hole a given? I know absolutely nothing of construction and I am getting crazy trying to do everything by myself without and architect. Every explanation would be much appreciated
