Ceiling question

Hello,

With the help of a friend, I'm DIY'ing recessed lights in my 1937 rowhouse in Washington DC.

As we cut 6'' holes in the ceiling, we realized that it is made of an old, strong material - a combination of drywall-ish stuff, cement and something else ( https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/96649001/Ceiling.JPG )

We are at a loss in terms of how to patch the extra holes needed to fish the wiring. Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks so much!
