Replace under mount sink with different shaped sink?

So...we've had our new sink/countertops/backsplash for about 3 months. I love most of it. I love the shape, size, low 60/40 divide of the sink.

BUT.

We went with a white silgranit, and it looks like crap. :(

There are TONS of pan scratches, and I don't really want to deal with using a magic eraser constantly to clean it.

"Luckily" our sink has a crack and Blanco is going to replace it. I could change colors (I feel like only black would resolve my current issue)

...or see if they would give me a stainless sink. Obviously the counter has a cutout for our rounded rectangle sink, so it might look weird if the corners of the sink don't match up.

Has anyone ever done this?

(Our counters are light grey with faint white marbling, white subway tile backsplash, stainless appliances. The white sink looks amazing, but I am a low maintenance kind of person.)

Yuck!

I would confirm with Blanco, but I believe there is no stainless steel sink that exactly matches that cut out. Perhaps either the Blanco One or the Blanco Performa have a bigger cutout then the low divide sink that you currently have.

What is your countertop made of? Some can be cut on site.

If neither of those works, you may need to go to another manufacturer. I think that one of the Kohler sinks (brookfield?) will fit the cut out-but you have to actually have Kohler send you the template so that you can see if it will fit the cut out. It's very annoying. (And installing a cast-iron sink after the fact is not going to be easy unless you're willing to go with a drop in)

I have the Blanco silgranite sink in white and I don't ever get any marks like your pans are making. What kind of pans are they?

Stainless isn't low maintenance but would look nice. You are limited by the cut for sure. Maybe a sink with a grate would prevent some of the scratching?

@practigal we have a scanpan and some all clad copper core...a bog standard cookie sheet...I think that's it?
the above suggestion for grates is interesting. and I'll check out that kohler sink!

The blanco performa 50/50 ss looks like the same shape...I haven't contacted blanco since they said they'd replace the sink.

Doesn't the Silgranite come in a gray that would look nice with the counter? I don't have silgranite, but according to reports here on gardenweb, your issues are very unusual. A grate likely would be worth the $$ to you. I can tell you that ss will definitely get scratched, and needs to be scrubbed well to stay looking nice. Neither of those bother me but just FYI.

we've always had stainless and the regular use scratching blends in SO much more than these dark scrapes! I am kind of thinking we should get the darker silgranit (the top of our stove and part of our microwave are black, so I guess that wouldn't look too terrible?)

The cutout influences, but does not necessarily determine, the replacement sink. I've changed sinks like this to apron style stainless for around $2,400.00, sink and all labor included. A straight-up change out without altering the cut-out should be less than $1,000.00. You want the replacement sink strapped (Hercules Universal Sink Harness or Sink Strap); don't reuse any mechanical fasteners.

Can the pans be cleaned in the DW? If so, use it. If those same pans mark the new sink. I would replace the pans. Life is too short...
