I don't think you should have any problem with community sowing till the plants get larger really. You will need to separate them befor the roots are long enough to get entwined though as that can be a problem and can cause damage IMHO. Some people prefer individual sowing so as there's less root disturbance, but sometimes space is at a premium and a few in a cup doesn't hurt. I've done it both ways, with success and failures using both methods! Good luck whichever way you go with :-)

Meant to say, keep them on the moist side, but don't flood, they like more moisture to germinate and when they're tiny than they do when older, will need some gentle warmth as well to germinate. Soak the seed for two hours in slightly warm water befor sowing, sow in a far less gritty mix than adult plants and only barely bury the seed, lie it on its side as you can't tell the top from t'bottom! I have always done community pots as Gill mentions. When they reach the 5-6 true leaf stage, then I usually put into their own small pot. I do this to save room and as long as the pot is a minimum of 3"-5" deep a group of seedlings will do fine. I usually start mine in the fall or early spring and they are under artificial lighting.

Using the Solo cups would be better than using those cell trays that others have used. With those when only half you seeds germinate, then you have space with nothing growing.

Everyone has their own way and what works for them. All good in the end.
