well i will give the knobs old fashioned but they are in now way babyish. just run over to depot, wallies or lowes, they all carry knobs.

I would suggest stopping by a home improvement store with him so he can pick out some new knobs he likes. :)

Hoping someone has a picture or a style or size that might look good for a teenage boy? Would the pull bin ones look okay?

you can even look on line, just measure the thickness of the wood and understand that if you are going to use a 2 screw pull you will need a second hole.

Maybe you could convert his closet interior to some open shelving and baskets? The dresser is in front of a window, he has a platform bed of some sort ( pic?). Maybe just REMOVE the dresser entirely. I can see why he doesn't like it, a bit too folksy!!. Or tell him if he goes half with money from chores $$, lawn cutting etc , you'll go half $$ and let him pick something new from ikea or crate and barrel??

My teen had this in his room also. We tossed it, went to IKEA and we both chose a modern dark set of drawers set up his room on a low budget. (No handles) It's a great place for teenage room furniture. I don't expect him to like what I chose for him at toddler age.

you could get him/ tell him to get knobs from huge ranges in hardwares. if he wants to be creative, what are his interests? he can buy/ salvage/ diy something to incorporate some personality through. see pictures below for ideas

That dresser looks solid and in good condition so I think it's a great idea to spruce it up with new knobs. No reason at all to get an entirely new dresser! (I know there's a joke in there somewhere to do with throwing the baby dresser out with the bath water....).
I think having him do something creative would be great, and the best way to give this dresser an new look.

Okay IMO he has a right to want a change from what he has had from the time he was a baby if all he wants is new knobs be thankful and get ones he chooses.

I find dressers for toddlers or babies are way too shallow and don't go deep enough. I think you should ask him if that's one of the reasons why he doesn't like this dresser anymore.
If it's just the look he doesn't like, go to Home Depot with him and let him pick out new knobs or pulls. Can also consider painting it, let him pick his color. I think any knobs or pulls will look fine as long as you let him make his own decision.

Tell him you don't see this dresser in baby nurseries! ;)

I don't think knobs are going to satisfy him for long and not make that much of a difference. He could get excited about his whole room...if you painted it with chalk paint (doesn't have to be sanded and this would be a great project for him) and add cupped handles or save the money and just paint them as well - which I have done plenty of times on various pieces. He could paint it navy perhaps and add a striped navy rug next to his bed and some sports posters and I'm sure he would be thrilled to have an updated room at very little cost.

I have offered to redo his room before, and he just tells me it's fine! Don't bug me about it, mom... This is the first time he's mentioned anything he wants to change.

The dresser was not cheap. It's solid and well made. I don't know all the mumbo jumbo but it has dovetailed drawers (is that what it's called?) and wooden tracks, I think. The matching longer but shorter dresser is in his 7 year old sister's room, but it works better in a girl's room.

He has a very deep closet that it would fit in that I've been trying to get him to move it to, but get this, he says, "But I don't want to have to open the closet doors every time I want to get something out of my dresser! LOL! Lazy teenage boys!

Forget the suggestions about buying a cheaper crappy dresser. I've found knobs for less than a $1 on clearance at Lowes & Home Depot. If he wants to paint it, that is super easy and cheap and it will still be a quality piece of furniture.

You could do something like I did to mine.
Paint it black and stain the drawers with a natural stain. (That is what I used, but depending on your wood changes the outcome...) I added silver legs to the bottom and I change the knobs to silver also.

I found enough drawer pulls and knobs to make you dizzy on Amazon. Really good prices too.

You may have to be a bit more adventurist, it will be fun. Some ideas. Use Annie Sloan paint

Try looking at Men's Journal Magazine, etc. for ideas for men's bedroom designs. (I love Men's Journal/Health magazines. I learn so much) He probably doesn't know what he wants, but he knows what he doesn't want. You will have to read the subtle clues he is sending. If he never talks about his room and now suddenly he is, clue...he is growing up!! Starting to notice the world around him more. You will really have to start reading the clues he is sending.

As a side note, that's why I never spent very much for my children's furniture...No they are NOT going to take it with them. They will buy their own. Yes, they will hate it in their teens and you will rue the day you have to get rid of it.
