White mold on soil

I'm reusing reflective sun shades as mulch for my containers. I noticed spots of white mold today. I'm guessing this would happen under wood mulch as well but just checkingv it's normal:) otherwise the plant seems healthy besides some container stress. thanks!

That may not be mold but may be a fungus instead. A picture of what you are seeing would be of some interest.

Mold = fungus.

But most of them are not only harmless to plants but beneficial to soil.

Indeed, it is fungus that breaks down the fibers in wood to produce compost.
