Zone 6: Chicago Hardy (CH) Figs

last modified: 10 years ago

I have two - 6 year old CH figs that are in container pots. Right after I purchased them I planted them in the ground for 2 years but they would always die back. Being in a short growing season zone I transferred them in to pots since and have been doing fine. I keep them in the garage where they go dormant and bud out in the spring.

Now that they are bigger, I was wondering what would happen if I plant them back in the ground. Will their branches die back like it did when it was younger? Any thoughts or experience on this? Thanks.
