Kitchen design from scratch

last modified: 10 years ago

Hey everyone, I am looking to do a full remodel of a kitchen starting from scratch. It's an open loft unit and the layout is below. I'm looking to design an L shaped kitchen with an island. I would like a walk in pantry, and was thinking of building one along the 20' wall, but am open to suggestions. Sorry for the long post, wanted to get all the info out there :)

Circles represent columns. Each square is a 6" square. Ceiling is 11' everywhere.

Here is the info from the FAQ to help set the boundaries:

Goal: functional kitchen suitable for one cook/cleaner upper. Likes to cook, but not looking for a professional kitchen.

No kids in the place, and not expecting any :)
Would like kitchen to be used for cooking/cleaning and would like island to have counter seating for when people come over. Informal, place to hang out, extension of the living area. i will have a separate DR, but won't get much use.

None of the walls shown in the layout can change, but I can add walls (build a pantry out for instance).

Only restriction for appliance is the sink, which needs to be on the wall with plumbing.

The shorter wall at the top has a column along the wall and then a bunch of large exposed ducts that takes up that short 5' wall (rendering it unusable).

Appliances already own: 30" induction range with chimney hood. 24" standard dishwasher.

No need for warming drawer, want to put a microwave in the pantry. Looking to get a French door fridge, not set on size since I can build the kitchen around it.

Wants: Looking to use IKEA cabinets. Minimal uppers, want to use more open shelving than full cabinets, but still have some. Large island with room for 3 stools at counter height.

Don't want: Full floor to ceiling, no sinks/appliances in the island.

Last but not least, this was a plan I had come up with using IKEA planner, but I'm up for a fresh perspective or a totally new plan.

Thanks so much for all the help that I know you guys will provide! nicki
