Budget bathroom design feedback

I am trying to finish picking out the pieces for my super low budget 5x7 main bathroom. My family of 5 shares this bathroom but do have a basement bath that is barely functional but will be fixed in the hopefully near future. We are in a neighbourhood where homes are affordable and not fancy at all. I may be looking to sell in the future but that is not something I am sure of so I am pretty much designing this for me. So far I have no particular style in my house because everything needs to be redone.

I am in a very small town 5 hours from any major cities that might have samples etc so I don't have a lot of choice there and have been ordering several pieces online. I already have the toilet, flooring, and faucets and the tub will be here in a couple of days. My house is tiny so I need to make some decisions before the tub makes a permanent home in my living room!

I have the option to purchase a biscuit kohler sink around $50 and after laying my flooring near my toilet I realized that I am afraid to put too much white in the room anyway. I have lived with a mostly pink bathroom for 6 years and even just a white toilet was a huge shock when I changed it!

So my thought is to get the biscuit sink and make a small vanity with white legs and a laminate top to set it in and then do biscuit tiles either with grey and white tiles mixed in or as an accent. I really love dolce vita laminate as well as river gold but I'm not sure I could make that one work in this room.

I have attached a picture of my bathroom now as well as a picture to show the thoughts I have for the design, flooring is grey and cream at the bottom of the picture. I love reading the forums and appreciate any opinions you might be able to give!

Is the tub you are getting white like the toilet? If so, I would pass on the biscuit sink and find a white one. Bathrooms are the one room where I think matchy matchy for the main pieces works.

Yes tub is white and apparently coming today! I agree after thinking a bit more about it I can make other items less stark white but keep the fixtures consistent, thanks. Do you think a creamy colour tile would look good in this room since I have the cream in the flooring?

I think cream will look great. As it usually does. Even though it's a bit hard for me to see your new flooring. Is is at the bottom, far right? I'd describe it as greige then. It will still work with cream. Should be beautiful actually together. At least from looking at the pics from the web-everything seems blending well with each other. As for having the main pieces white..You'll get used to the change. I agree with maddielee-it's better to keep big items consistent in a bathroom.

Don't forget to advertise your old pink tub and sink on Craigslist-some people are in love with retro, and might be happy to buy it from you.

Here is a better picture of the flooring in the bathroom, we have a lot of natural light from a good size window. I have it beside the white toilet and an ivory shirt to show the colour hopefully better. It has cream and grey but it all sort of seems to blend. And thank you for the confidence in the other choices. I will plan to get some samples of the countertop and tile before deciding for sure on them but as I said most will come from the Internet so it's harder to get a whole bunch of samples. And I will start looking for a white sink!

Thank you, now I see what you meant by describing it cream and gray. Cream would definitely work. Warm gray would work. Ivory would work. They all have this calm warm quality about them. Very pleasing combination, at least to me.

Getting samples is a great idea, especially of the countertop-patterns are even harder than solid colors, when it comes to seeing them in real life vs monitor.

Although there's cream in the floor, I think the gray will dominate. When you put the floor sample down and step away, do you only see the gray? Or try squinting to blur the colors. In my case I just take off my glasses. So I would use a warm white or light gray tile. By warm white, I mean a white softer than the pure white of the porcelain fixtures. Cream to me means a touch of yellow, which I'd avoid. You'll want to see what looks best with the counter.

I wanted to point out that using a kitchen faucet in your shallow bathroom sink will most likely mean splashing because the arc is higher.

One way to add color would be to get an all-in-one vanity top and sink. We have something like this in our bathroom, and love it:

    solid surface sink

Are you going to be using a shower curtain? If so, I would go mostly mono-chromatic (well, duo-chromatic, meaning white tub, toilet and sink, greige everywhere else) and allow the shower curtain and some towels to be your "décor".

Ok squinting it just looks like bigger patches instead of all the lines, more cream than grey I would say. Without much light it's more grey and pictures definitely pick up more of the grey. Confusing! And my faucet is moen Boutique lavatory, its like a cute mini arched style.

A solid surface counter and sink would be great but my current sink is 19w 17d and I don't have a lot more room than that to work with. Plus I'm in Canada which means all the best online sights aren't really useable for me or the exchange kills the savings unfortunately, things are so expensive here.

Yes I will be using a shower curtain but I don't really want it to steal the show. Are you meaning stay away from the busier countertop and different coloured tiles?

One of the Home Decor regulars, akl_vdb, lives in Canada and after a long search, she decided on Adex tile.

Holy mayflowers (z8) , you do remember me :)

mommyjoy- I've actually ordered stuff from Lowes.ca (we don't have a Lowes where we are) and homedepot.ca. They both have such a large online inventory. You can check on size and see if there are any options there for what you need.

Thanks! I knew I could order some things from Home Depot but I didn't know lowes shipped. Getting samples is the biggest issue in my mind right now but I'm not sure, maybe samples are available too I just have to decide what I want! Will have to look into both places and the local building place, maybe they have something affordable as well.

I'm in mid to northern Manitoba so ya, I'm pretty far from any big box stores. I couldn't even find a cast iron tub around here so thank goodness for online shopping. It has made its way to my living room thanks to my husband and brother(I helped a bit haha) and is pretty darn comfy and beautiful.

Not quite sure what you decided on the sink, but I would definitely pass on the Biscuit one. It's a lovely color and sounds like a great deal, but you will be glad in the long run if you install while. Much easier to update too.

We bought the Memiors Stately pedestal sink for our son's small bathroom 10 years ago and installed a recessed medicine cabinet over it. My husband installed the medicine cabinet. It was time consuming but it's gorgeous and classic, and there is stil plenty of space around the sink itself to accomodate the things my kids cannot be bothered with putting in the cabinet: tooth brushes, including electric ones, toothpaste, including the empty-ish tubes, contact lens cases, fluid, deodorant, cups & clippers, you get the idea.

I don't think you need to worry about the porcelain fixtures "matching," the fact that they are white is enough. Enjoy your new bathroom!
