sun baskets might not do well in the house .. what damage are they doing to the baskets???? ..

if none... then you might be loving them up a bit much ....

also .. change your watering.. they might not dry out in the house.. like they were outside .... and improper watering might kill them faster than the JBs ever will ...

and what do you mean hang around ... for me.. in MI ... til fall ...

As a Beatle once asked, "Do you want to know a secret?" A small bucket with an inch or two of soapy water will dispatch them quickly. They tend to drop straight down when disturbed so play a game of catch with them. Hanging baskets work well for this. Population spikes last about 3-4 weeks here.

Are you sure you didn't bring the beetles and any other pest inside?

I think you're right - I have them in a small entryway, with light from 3 directions, and I suppose as soon as I put them out again, the beetles will be at them - they look fine from a distance. I think, too, that we'll have them till fall. I'm 40 mi. west of Chicago, in the Fox Valley. Thanks for answering so promptly!

Adult Japanese Beetles have a very short life span but since they emerge over a long time period (July to mid August) they seem to have a fairly long life span.

Control of the adult Japanese Beetle can be somewhat difficult although knocking the buggers into a pail of soapy water, early in the morning before they start moving about, works quite well. I have not found Insecticidal Soap to be very effective on these buggers, but Neem oil products do appear to be. Pyrethrin based sprays and dusts do seem to be quite effective as well.

I'm battling these, too... they're on my hanging baskets of zinnias, bean plants, and now moving to my okra. I did a neem oil spraying which does seem to have cut down the population pretty well but I am still going out several times per day to hand pick them off of my plants and dropping into soapy water.
