I live in Northern Mass., and am having a party this Sunday. We've haven't gotten significant rainfall in several weeks and most lawns have browned out already. I've done a good job at watering once a week and deeply and my lawn looks OK and green all things considered.

What steps, if any, do I need to take I order to keep my lawn from surviving the party (about 40 people for several hours)? I have a mix of fescue/KGB and mow at one of the highest settings. I was going to mow like I usually do Saturday and water deeply before the party. I'm not used to a lot of foot traffic so I hope it holds up OK. Any other tips?

I would want the soil fairly hard (dry) for the party so the herd of people don't compact it. If the soil is soft and lots of people walk on it, true compaction could happen. But water it immediately when they leave or the next morning. So starting now I would water it about 3/4 inch. Then by Sunday it will have dried out.

+1 David. Other than that, enjoy the party and don't worry too much about it. The lawn is there for you to enjoy, not to worry about, and the rare garden party shouldn't have any severe consequences. KBG's durability to wear isn't great, but it's easily up to that! The fescue won't even notice.
