I installed my 52" wide screeen above my fireplace and my initial thought was that I would get a kinked neck looking up. It turned out not to be true, your eyes tend to look up rather than your head changing angle.

Thanks for the insight. It may come to that if we can't find another solution.

hi i would mount it to the wall left of the fireplace and have it turned out to you with your couches in a "L" shape that away you can get the use of the fireplace and not have the tv take away from your beautiful fireplace which is the focal point of he room

If you have a closet behind either of those walls, your installer can put the components there. I'd prefer the right side because it looks like the left wall would be in a traffic lane. Hang your TV on the wall, or even better, build in a cabinet for it that also allows for decor, books and lighting. A large sectional placed in the carpeted area with its back to the sliders will allow for a view of the FP and both walls, however you decide.

All good ideas. We will probably have to go with the wall to the left of the fireplace, even though it is in the line of traffic. The fireplace wall backs up onto a bedroom, so there is no room for a cabinet or bookshelves; they would block the doorway to the guest area partially.

There are many people with strong opinions against putting a TV above the fireplace, however I do believe that there are situations where it is the most appropriate option.

The biggest factor to consider would be the angle between your TV placement and the placement of your sofa/furniture.

By the looks of things you have plenty of room and your seating will not be too close to the fireplace; therefore you will not have too severe an angle.

Try with a piece of art first before having the TV installed to see if it's a comfortable viewing height for you.

The other bonus of having the TV above the fireplace is focus. You then have one emphatic point in your room and don't have to split the focus.
