I think it comes down to a question of personal choice. To anyone who frequents this forum regularly, it is pretty obvious I favor less pruning on any maple rather than more :-) Kind of my philosophy with all trees - why force them into a pattern of growth they would not naturally follow??

I kinda like the little twist........it provides some character to a tree that would otherwise just be a pole with some leaves attached to it! So I'd be inclined to leave it alone :-) But if you want a perfectly straight column, then yes, you could attempt to train the stronger "leader" into a more upright position but I'd leave the second in place to see how it develops before removing (if at all). There is still plenty of time in this tree's still very young life to make changes later.

Thank you! I'll just leave it "as is" and plant it. I didn't know if I needed to straighten it up and define the main leader when it is young so it isn't weakened by a split leader later in life.
