I would suggest two long hall runner rugs in colorful patterns for interest. If you want to shorten the appearance of the hall, use a horizontal stripe. Do you have a table that could straddle the floor vent without blocking it? Seems more inviting to see the table when you open the door than to have to come all the way in and close the door to see it. Art should follow the 5-5-75 "rule." Bottom 5" above furniture, center 5' above the floor if no furniture under it, and size no more than 75% of the furniture's width. Judging from the builder's special boob fixture in your last photo, I'd guess you need some new fixtures there and in the immediate entry. Show us the light and table in the entry for better suggestions.

I think the table, mirror and sconces would be fine, but turn the mirror vertically with bottom 5" above the table. Put a larger more colorful piece of art opposite to be doubled by the mirror. If you can change to an open bottom table, flip sides of the space with all of it. Still need to work on lighting. If you get that right you don't need a lamp on the table unless you need a sort of night light there.

And yes the lighting is a similar boob lighting type fashion. It's pretty terrible.

Also that specific mirror doesn't have to stay. Was just trying to use some things I already had but if it won't work I can sell it. The table has some significance to me and I'd prefer not to sell it. I could switch to the other side and get one of those small things that divert the air under the table.

Try it on the other side and see what you think. You might still use your candle sconces but they may need to be lowered once the mirror is up. You could think about painting the mirror frame to pick up a color from the new rugs.

From the pics, it looks like the side that you have the table on is indented due to the closets. If so, then I would keep the table there because it fills the nook nicely. You have a really nice start with your selections. I agree with adding colorful runners. (Check out Dash and Albert for examples of pretty striped ones, but the runner you eventually choose should have enough structure to it so it doesn't bunch up easily. Some indoor/outdoor options might work well). A cheerful piece of art to reflect in the mirror is a great idea. A ceramic stool is another nice option if you want a place to sit that doesn't take up much space. You could place a potted plant in a basket next to the stool to go with your decor theme. An open lantern style light pendant would look nice. (Open so that you don't need to get a ladder up to clean the glass!) I love your floors and it looks like you have a beautiful new home. Thank you for your input Elizabeth! You are correct that there is a nook due to the closets. The table means something to me so if it's not terrible for my house id like to keep it. I will check out where you mentioned for rugs. If I leave the table in the nook, how do I determine what size of artwork would look good there keeping in mind the beautiful light switch on the wall as well? ;) I like the idea of some greenery too. I really appreciate your help and thanks, it's my first house!

Does the door hit the table when you open it? Move it to the other side.

Less is always better in entryways. The less objects the more elegant the look. Id do a small stool, potted plant and large full length mirror where the table is. A wonderdul vintage rug. Then either leave other wall blank or put a grouping of subtle art. The table seems too tight for that space. If there is any possibility if even slight awkward bumping or maneuverung then you dont have enough space in an entry. Love your house.

I think that you've styled the console table in a way that is attractive, but somehow has too much "stuff" on it; and particularly, too much stuff that seems more suited for a coffee table - like the books with a decorative item on top, vases, wedding photos. IMO, a hallway console table should at least feel more functional, not purely decorative. So maybe just one decorative item , and a small tray or basket for keys and such.

The items on the entry table are mostly just a temporary thing. A couple of the items will stay, the others will go- they were just random items from not being used to give me an idea of where I may want to go with the decor.

We actually do not enter through this door, we have an area through the garage where we come through but it is where most guests come through. Where the table currently is, there is a deeper "nook" due to the coat closet and storage closet shown as you go further into the house. I haven't had any issues with the door hitting the table.

Love the table and mirror! Agree w the suggestions to remove some of the smaller items (but you've already said you intended to do that).

Remove the sconces (sorry), definitely keep the glass (they add light and color). Keep any rug simple and natural like a sisal (something to blend and not stand out). Only suggestion beyond that is, since you are replacing the art on the other wall, to choose something vertical and larger. Also keep it simple since the space does not really have enough room to really view the art from a proper distance. You don't want people to feel tackled:) Love the dark floors; you're off to a great start! Lastly, I have no idea why the pictures are being inserted in the middle of the paragraph:)
