Gray everywhere?

I am starting my kitchen design and every where I go I see gray and more gray. I am drawn to it and I know gray is a neutral color-but I don't want to date my kitchen. It seems to me in 5 years the gray and white look will be very 2016 and 2017. I was wondering other people's thoughts and if anyone was any suggestions or thoughts.

Can't go wrong with natural wood stained cabinets. Not a fan of white or grey.

I'm not a fan of gray either. In small doses as an accent, fine. But large doses (walls, floor, or cabinets) to me feels very cold. I just imagine myself in the room on a cold winter day and it makes me dreary! If you don't like it, then pick something else that you like.

I don't think the predominantly grey look is timeless. It has a fad written all over it. I would avoid grey overdose.

White cabinets IMO are timeless as for gray I love have had it for 9 yrs already and have no got tired of it but I am also not a big wood fan or a beige and brown fan . Do what you like not what is “in” unless you have a money tree to do the next “in” thing

I love gray but I would not like it to dominate a room. You need other colors with gray as you do with any color you choose for a room.

One thing is for sure....beautiful wood cabinets in whatever finish you like will never be considered dated. Mine are maple, and although that's not the flavor if the moment, I know that 10-plus years or more from now, nobody will be able to tell what year I did my kitchen! Cabinets are such a huge investment. Go with something timeless. Paint and accessories are relatively inexpensive to change, so get creative with those!

I think gray is extremely trendy right now. Everyone wants white and gray everything and I think its going to go out of style soon since its SO overdone. I like the idea of going timeless and choosing a wood color instead

Keep the bones classic- wood, white... And get your gray fix in paint/decor which can be changed easily in years to come :)

2 times to choose grey: 1. you are getting your home ready to sell so you paint all of the walls grey, or 2. you love grey and want grey and need grey and choose it for even difficult/expensive to change surfaces with the full understanding that odds are the grey parade will have moved on, as surely as the mauve parade and the harvest gold refrigerator parade moved on.

i chose white cabinets because i like white cabinets. i was an early adopter on quartz counters that look like marble and do feel a bit bad that it has become so popular as it has diluted my sense of individuality. but i have a checkerboard kitchen floor and i don't give a fig if future buyers don't like it, they can rip out the kitchen if it doesnt suit them but they surely cannot say its 'dated' to any time in this century.

That's part of my dilemma. I like the gray and can't tell if I am being pulled into a trend or if I like it. And your checkboard floor sounds great.

Well, there is gray and there is gray. There are some beautiful grays with gorgeous undertones. One of my very favorites is BM Gray Cashmere. I love Gull Wing Gray for a south facing room. Templeton Gray is almost teal...on and on. In my new home I used BM CSP 580...seersucker suit. Gorgeous....And an all time winner for painting cabinets is BM Nantucket Gray with black counters.
