Prairie Petite Lilac

I bought a Prairie Petite Lilac yesterday at a garden sale. The mature size of the Prairie Petite is 3-4'. Does anybody have any experience with this lilac? Would it be possible to grow it in a large container? I'd love to have a lilac right outside my door to smell. Thanks.
