I know Hoya seeds will germinate quickly on moist soil or long fiber spaghnum moss.

Couple problems... the seeds have a pretty short shelf life, so you want to plant them fast.

The other problem... is that most folks out there selling Hoya seed (especially on Amazon and Ebay) are filthy soulless scam artist selling packets of weed seed. :(

Thanks, I really hope I get real seeds! My neighbours mother had one of these plants when I was a kid and I've always loved them and I live in an area that's difficult to get plants

I cannot express in words (at least not on this site) how I feel about scam artists. I can however express how I feel about Hoyas- everyone needs at LEAST 50! :D

There are lots of eBay sellers who will sell cuttings both unrooted and rooted, even starter plants. I have met a lot of very nice sellers on eBay who are nice to deal with and very professional when dealing with customers.

Is there a place on here to buy cuttings?. I'm new and I had a bad bad experience with eBay. Their has to be a better way for me to get hoyas.I love them so much. Can anyone advise me? Thanks

Jan Sword also sells nice cuttings, her ebay handle is jan followed by a bunch of numbers and I can never remember, she is in Florida and her sales will come up in an ebay Hoya search.

Also, if you PM greentoes or Denise from the boards they both sell cuttings. Denise is especially good for growers getting started as she has many of the more beginner Hoya, lovely plants that root and bloom easily.

Oh, and if you see tawne.grise on ebay she is another forum member who often sells plants.

I have recieved plants and cuttings from everyone that I have mentioned here in one way or another, between them probably somewhere over 50 plants total.

These vendors have never let me down and I have always been quite pleased with everything. Plants always arrive well packaged, healthy, and as described or better. And they are all forum folk, so you know they will be there to help of you have any questions.

Oh, also Gardinos Nursery, rare-flora on ebay. I personally have yet to order from them (my hobby budget is small and I prefer watching a cutting grow over getting a big plant from the start anyways), but these guys are most excellent as well. While I can't speak for them personally, I spend entirely too much time on the boards and I have never heard from anyome who was not 100% pleased with their order.

I can't thank you enough for this info!I'm so excited and afraid at the same time. I've only been able to find 2 Hoya's where I live and both were saturated with water so I repot so they would not rot but they just die. I've tried to root a number of cutting and tried EVERYTHING that I have ever read and been advised to do. They just rot. But my passion for them won't let me give up.maybe I will see something on here that will help

Make notes when you try stuff. Even if they die, you will build up a database of what doesn't work. I think that is half the battle, since everyones growing conditions are so different.

Do not feel too bad. I used to kill everything, even spider plants and sansaveria, I was the worst black thumb ever. In the last year of experimenting, reading, and annoying everyone on the boards with endless questions I have gotten halfway decent at it! You will get there too!

OP, post a picture of the seeds if you took one, or a link to the vendor where you bought them from - we will be able to tell you if they are real or not. The chance that they are real is very low, I am sorry to tell you. It's better to get cuttings - they are much wider available, there is far less fraud with them, and you get genetically identical plants, which does not happen with seeds, even if they are real Hoya seeds. And they can be taken at any time at all, rather than waiting for seeds to set, which is a very rare event with Hoyas.

I am who Kim named "greentoes" lol (thanks for the mention, Kim, it's a singular "green toe", like "green thumb". It's a funny story actually with that username - I was opening an account with GardenWeb / now Houzz some years ago, and when they asked for username, I sort of contemplated the answer, and I looked down thoughtfully on the floor, and there was my previously banged against the furniture all swollen and painful toe, and I thought, "GREEN TOE! Perfect!" :-) )

Oh, and I bought from, traded with and was gifted by, almost all of the above-mentioned people, and they are all good. The Hoya community is really tight-knit, so we do not get a lot of bad ones, or they do not last when they pop up.

I've ordered them but I haven't received them yet so I'll take a picture when they arrive and post it. Hopefully it'll be soon!
