Porch Ceiling Material?

We are building a new home and are doing exposed stained beams on our front and back porches. We are trying to decide what to use on the porch ceilings. I like the look of real wood tongue & groove and I think it would compliment the look of the porches well. However, I'm a little concerned about maintenance and durability. What do you guys think of using real wood for a porch ceiling? Would be we better off using a synthetic material?

Real wood is fine, as it's not exposed to any weather on the porch ceiling. If you use a clear finish, whether stained or not, make sure you use something that blocks UV light, such as a spar varnish. Otherwise, the wood will continue to darken. I love the look of our T&G pine ceiling, and wouldn't trade it for anything.

We have a wood tongue in groove ceiling, and it has held up fine in the almost 5 years we have been in our house. It is painted light blue. We have neighbors who stained theirs, and it is fine as well.

We had real wood in our old house front porch ceiling, a 1936 colonial. I think it was beadboard not t&g but could be wrong. No issues with it at all.

I'm having coffee under haint blue painted beaded pine tongue and groove. We primed both sides prior to installation.

Our house is 11 yrs old. We used this product on our front and back porch. Midwest climate. Painted twice. Looks like new. It's reversible.
