It is not normal for canna rhizomes to remain dormant for two years. That suggests that your plant is not a canna. Please, post a picture.

aruzinsky, would love to post some photos but I can't seem to get my photos to upload from my android (MotoG) phone onto my Macbook. If I can figure that out I'll be sure to post some photos. As the saying goes....."a picture is worth a thousand words".

I can't speak for your zone. I over-winter mine in the garage and brought them out in April and then carted them out each day and back in at night until it was warm enough for them to stay outside. Mine are now about 3' tall and I got my first bloom today. Maybe you're just being impatient.

Do you fertilize? I feed mine once a week with an organic grow and bloom booster.

I used to be able to embed photos into a post using the "Photo" button but that suddenly stopped working, without error messages. Apparently, it is Houzz's fault and their advertisers are too dumb to complain.

Now, I post links to photos uploaded to my own web space. It costs me $4/month to rent the web space and about $35/year for domain registration.

I have only fertilized them with some worm castings and the occasional drink of comfrey tea. They are doing fine I'm sure, I just need to be a little more patient. I've never grown them before so wasn't sure when they would flower.

By the way, how long will blooms last and if I dead-head them, do they keep producing new flowers? thanks,

I think a 8" pot is to small for canna's or am I wrong?
