I just had a few ideas involving minimal construction changes.

One idea is to taking the white mantel off. It divides the entire brick wall surface in an odd way so that might be a way to help with that.

The raised brick hearth could go either way; shortening the extension on the left side- unless there's something hiding underneath the extension, or extending it all the way on the right side.

I think with the right accessories, you could distract your eyes from focusing so much on the odd proportions and extensions of the wall.

you'd like the room more, and you'd have an easier time selling, if you just got rid of the brick and be done with it.
