I would prefer the layout with the door in the kitchen. It seems like you will have a lot of cabinetry, so you are not losing that much with the door in the kitchen. If it were my house I would consider the cabinets to the right of the door a landing area and it would be where I store things not specifically for the kitchen, but the household in general.

I just don't think I would like entering the dining room when I'm coming home. I'm used to going into the kitchen first from the garage so it seems more natural to me.

I prefer the door into the kitchen.

Do you require a separate clean up sink under the window? If you had a singular sink on the island you could something symmetrical framed by the opening to the living room.

On the back wall: ovens-cooktop-fridge. On the island: only sink-dishwasher-counter seating.

If you need direct access to the backyard from the kitchen, you could turn your window into a slider.

I remember your kitchen. First you don't want to move plumbing to the tune of 10k! No way, no how. LOL. I would keep it in the kitchen. I think with your updated layout it will work fine in the kitchen because you're not walking through the work area of the kitchen.
