Forgot to say that you can paint the inside with the color you want

While your kitchen is nice looking, if it doesn't suit your taste then you should look into painting them. White cabinets definitely have a different feel than wood. I would start with this first and then address the countertops as you may find the cabinets will do the trick in achieving your desired look.

I agree with Sarah. I like your kitchen the way it is, but if you're dreaming of a creamier look, then definitely paint the cabinets. I'd also keep the existing counter tops to see if you can pull them together with the lighter cabinets. It all depends on your budget. New counters could run $4-5,000 and if you have the kitchen professionally painted, there goes another $3,000. Chrysteen

Thank you so much for everyone's help! I appreciate it. My countertop is baltic brown (black and brown) granite and the backsplash is travertine tumbled subway tiles. I like this kitchen look: Only problem is the wood in this kitchen gives it a warm and cozy feel and I don't have wood (tile instead). Wonder if I change my countertops to a similar look and change the hardware on my cabinets for a simpler/traditional style, then I may get a nice change? Any ideas about that?

i don't necessarily think that replacing your counter will lighten up the room enough. You already have a light tile floor, backsplash and paint color.

The dark cabinetry does give the kitchen a warm feel, but I think you have a great looking kitchen all around. Counters, cabinets, appliances, color.

However, if you aren't satisfied, you might consider refacing the wall cabinets and adding a backsplash on the walls with some color. Trying to repaint the cabinets yourself is way too risky, I'd leave it to a professional. I think your kitchen is very nice. If it's too dark for your taste, have you thought about replacing the backsplash with something more colorful? You could also wallpaper or paint the inside of your uppers to bring some color in as well.
