Are you going to order from WildGardenSeed? I see a few Frank Morton's varieties. I can't commit this far ahead yet, but I'd like to try to grow some quinoa next year. So, I might be interested in your seed exchange.

BTW, I grow fenugreek from an Indian store and it's just fine for greens and seed. It's better to root French Tarragon from a grocery store or buy a plant. Tarragon grown from seed is Russian Tarragon which is not as potent as French.

Gvozdika, thank you for the information! I actually just cleaned out my spice cabinet last night and found some fenugreek I had bought from an indian store! I was wondering if it would sprout! I know you can grow almost all beans and lentils from the grocery store. I will try that before I buy, thanks!!

I should definitely have some extra for trade. Especially if i grow it and harvest the seeds! SIGH I guess now I have to commit to building my new garden this fall which I am dreading because it will be SOOOO much work. I am going to dig up grass for 3 4x8 garden beds in my front yard. I'm too lazy for raised beds, it will be in the ground.

Read up on planting fenugreek (methi). It's a "temperamental" plant. I do know it hates being transplanted so if you plan to begin them in a way other than direct sow you might consider getting biodegradable pots. It also doesn't like a whole lot of heat.

Agreed with Renee, fenugreek doesn't like much heat, it will look bad but still produce seed.

Lauren, you don't have to dig up grass. Just cover it with cardboard, layers of paper. Put some mulch on top and cut slits for transplants.

Lauren, I did buy a few seeds from them. I would recommend them, but, I think, their seeds can recommend themselves. I get most of my seeds from Nichols Garden Nursery and they carry many seeds that Wild Garden Seed has, there are very close from each other. I'm looking at WGS catalog and it's so tempting. Now I really need time to think this through.
One of the WGS's packets had a stray orach seed. It sprouted yesterday, it's reddish. I'm quite excited to see what it's going to be.

I ended up skipping on the bulb onions because I went into Walmart and they had a bunch of them on clearance for like 75 cents a bag. So now I have like 400 onion sets lol. That might be enough... haha They had a whole box of asparagus too and that was tempting but I don't think it would come up very well right now, and I'm sure they have been sitting on the shelf for quite some time already :( Side note there were amaryllis bulbs for $2 a piece!!! That's unheard of. THEY HAD GREEN LEAVES SPROUTING! And OMGosh the box with potatoes was out of control. LOL I also got a pink iris which I REALLY hope grows even though it was all dry and dead looking.

I'm still up for trades for items on this list (although I have not received them yet). Or if someone wants to paypal some cash then I can quote them a price for what they want. (I'm not trying to make money off this, just spend less than I already have if that makes sense.)

gvozdika, LOL I see they sell cheesemaking supplies that is tempting me now to start that hobby all over again! Orach is exciting! Amaranths too! I picked up a few Amaranth plants this year from Annie's Annuals when I was in the bay area, and wow they are beautiful. Then i found out you can eat them... WHAT!?! AND THEY'RE SUPER HEALTHY?!? Blown away. This will always be in my garden.

Lauren, congratulations, cool seeds! I don't have any of these, have to take a closer look at them, would like to hear how Maca and Purple Radish will do for you. What do you know about the Japanese Unique Purple Radish? I love radishes, right now I'm waiting on the last seed pods to dry on my Green Misato radishes. Can't trade it yet, have to grow some to check that the seeds are Ok. But it's a nice shorter daikon radish, can be grown in deep pots. If you like popcorn, from last year I have Squirrel tooth (Tom Thumb) Popcorn, a short variety.

A Botanical Wonder

Orach is a species of many wonders. Aside from its dayglow pigments and iridescent reflectance, it sometimes changes color as it grows. Seeds from purple or magenta kinds may begin growth with their parent's color, then turn green or gold spontaneously at some point before flowering. This trait variability within an individual plant is also expressed in the seeds, which may be either small black, dormant, and indigestible, or large, tan, fast sprouting, and nutritious. We only wish to sell the tan seeds for planting, so we try to clean out the black ones by size. Regardless of which color seed is planted, the off-spring will bear both kinds of seeds. Orach, quinoa, and huauzontle all have the same (high) nutritional profile in their seeds. Strangely, all share the same chromosomes, except orach is a hexaploid (6n), meaning all of its cells contain 3 pairs of normal chromosomes, quinoa is tetraploid (4n), and huauzontle, diploid (2n), the more normal genetic state. Each is native to a different continent, and each was independently domesticated by different cultures. What a plant.

I got a small black orach seed, so it will be interesting. I dug through my seed stash and found Red Royal Quinoa, will be planting these for greens (or whatever color it will come out :)

Lauren, I just saw your post. I have foxgloves and they bloomed big this year; I expect to have alot of seeds if u are still looking...maybe for a herb trade? They are a mix of pink, purple, and creamy white

gvozdika, I don't know much about the Daikon radish, but I know it is a winter radish. Also a youtube person I follow called california gardening did a video on it and said it was worth growing so I thought I'd give it a try. I'd be interested in your green radish when it's ready and popcorn. Also the celery and rudbeckia if you are interested. Pm me with what you want to trade.

Val, I would love to do a trade for some foxglove! I am also interested in your pansies, zinnias, and red bird amaranthus! I also have a few silver dollar eucalyptus seeds I ordered online, and a tree nearby which I can collect from (not sure the variety but I think it is also a silver dollar.) I have several varieties of basil which I can send seeds or rooted cuttings. I always keep a few cuttings rooted of basil because it is so easy and delicious! I can't have too much! May I make a suggestion about your purple radish. Hang on to those seeds, grow them, let the best ones go to seed and protect them from cross-pollination with other radish varieties. I would be very interested in trading for that seed, even if it's a hybrid. I'll let you know when I test my misato radish (have some Atomic Red carrot seeds ripening as well :)

Gvozdika- I will probably just do that radish with nothing else around, so that I can save seeds. I will try to avoid cross pollination as much as possible with my fall crop. I'm still figuring out the whole seed saving part. I got the growing the basics down this summer :) I don't imagine it will take too long for radishes to go to seed? I know they grow the fastest. I'm not opposed to hand pollinating either...heck I might be able to get my 3 yr old to do that.

Lauren I know you just got a bunch of onions but I do have the white and yellow spanish sweet onion that I can trade. I won't be using them. I might have a few other types if you're interested in those to trade for some of the seeds you have.
