Why do you need strong? just curious and why less peat?

If you ask 10 people you will get 10 different ways to make Hypertufa. It is what works best for you.

Strength IMHO is determined not so much by ingredients but more likely due to properly curing your pot and proper mixing of the ingredients .

I use 1 part peat, 1 part Portland, 1 part perlite. It is easy to remember. I use potting soil instead of peat.

Cure for no less that 2 weeks, if you need the most strength go for 3 weeks. I do not use fibers - unless I am making a very large pot.

We sell them at shows and need to move them around. Since writing we have been successful with a Portland, sand and sifted peat...never use perlite. Thanks for your help. We just made 16 pots and we texture them, brush on buttermilk and then have mossy tufas over time.

Do you think your mixture would work to make a tree? Would you kindly share your "recipe"?

Our recipe is 1 part Portland cement, 1 1/2 part peat,sifted,and 1 1/2 part sand. We use reinforcing plastic hardware "Cloth" here and there in large planters.

A tree would be difficult I think.
