Ok thank you. Just did some research on it and it adds up. I'm sure that's what it is- eeeeeek not sure I can pick them up! I'm just hoping I won't have larvae soon eating up the roots.

Julie - Half fill a container with water and a few drops of dish soap. Hold the container under the leaf with the bug and brush the bug in. If you can't bear to touch it, wear gloves or brush with a stick, paintbrush, etc.

Got it. I can definitely do they. Is this usually something where there are prob a dozen bugs or is it usually just a few?

Root weevils are nearly omnipresent anywhere there is wood - bark mulch, wooden fences, wood siding, even a lot of tree bark. A noted, the damage is almost always cosmetic.......the larvae rarely damages anything established in the ground (heucheras are an exception) - that is much more of a concern in a containerized nursery setting. They tend to be nocturnal so your best bet for maximum control is to go out just at dusk, layer newspapers or an old sheet under the plant and then shake the branches. The adult weevils will fall off the plant (they are quite awkward and can't fly) and you can gather them up easily and destroy. Wrapping Tanglefoot or other sticky tape around the base of the plant will also help to capture the adults. The larvae is much more difficult to control and requires accurate timing and expensive methods (beneficial nematodes).

Root weevils are a major problem in my area with rhododendrons, English laurel and a few other broadleaved evergreen shrubs; less so with hydrangeas, although they will feed on them as well. They seem to favor climbing hydrangeas......maybe because these are often grown against some sort of wooden structure :-))
