Two bits of decor I like in a kitchen are botanical prints / paintings and dishes. The style can be whatever you like. I have vintage china with shabby chic rose canvas art, but you could also do more scientific botanical prints with more modern dishes or dishes with a cultural bent - like Mexican.

A lighting option, size/width is good I think at 19".

Cher, I should have clarified as well, lol, I should have said full length bookcase rather than floor/ceiling, because I meant to top of cabinet. IMO if you put anything there it should be either the same as shelves on other side, as in three floating shelves in same wood as cabinets, or something completely different.

I like the look of industrial style tables with modern chairs, and I think to tie in LR which is adjacent to dining area, I would approach something like this:

-industrial style table in wood tone similar to floating shelves in LR

-a fabric covered settee on window side of table in a style that looks like something repurposed, like the dressers you have on each side of FP.

- then 4 modern chairs in a bright colour.

When I look at your LR , I see the red you say is in the owl art as more of an orangey-red, or that could be because of the ottoman beside FP. On your other tread someone suggested a colour scheme of all three, green orange and purple, I think that could work here. What you need is something as a starting/inspiration point. In your LR and DR it seems art was maybe that inspiration, so that's why I previously suggested a fabric choice which could be for upholstery or curtains.

i would love to see you paint your chest. Are you leaning towards a certain color? Cream is always nice but color is more fun...and after all if you tire of it there is always more paint.

I think because it is already painted you could use regular paint. The chalk paints work great on stained furniture because the stain doesn't bleed. It would be a lot less expensive. Just get a good brush.

For smoothness get flotrol...there is one for oil and one for latex. I never use oil anymore though.

I think you could go midcentury. A more midcentury console behind the sofa might help tie it all together nicely. Here are some inspiration pics I stumbled upon.

I just noticed there is orange in your living room. I would definitely go orange in the dining room. Maybe throw in some green accents through plants/cuttings or decor.
