Fresh Start - Summer Bedding

I am looking for a change in my bedroom. Something fresh and clean but also calming. A wee bit feminine would be nice too. I've recently ended a long-term, long distance relationship and something more me.. and in my colors feels appropriate.

I was planning on all white in different textures but as I prepared to place orders, it just didn't feel "me" enough. I gravitate to the pale colors and I like to not only mix textures but also patterns.

I like both of these .. I prefer the rose pattern but I like the freshness of the paisley. Also, the paisley comes with the striped sheets. There is no other pattern for the rose pattern so I'd have to try to match something myself if I go that route.

The paisley is organic PB. I have a number of PB duvets and I am pretty happy with them for the price. I fear the pattern is a little "young" for my 52 yr.

The roses are a cotton linen blend from Garnet Hill. Love the pattern but wish the natural was a bit whiter so that I could more easily mix and match. It's also more expensive. The duvet alone is the cost of the full PB set...sheets, shams and duvet.

Which do you like best for a comfy, calm oasis of a bed? Do you think the PB set looks too youthful? FWIW there isn't much furniture in the room. The headboard is upholstered. The walls are BM Gray Owl which should work well with both.

I did the same turnaround, Robo! I was happy with the paisley until I saw the roses. It is a rustic, vintage kind of pattern--but not too much of either. It's called Swedish farmhouse or similar so it fits. I am good with pastels.. in fact, I prefer them for the bedroom as long as they aren't too froufrou.

I'd go with the roses if only I could find something to pair with it. A stripe or another floral...

I think both patterns are nice and ageless. I prefer a paisley pattern over roses, but I like the flangeless style of the Euro shams for the rose pattern better. The cotton/linen blend of the rose set will look less crisp than the all-cotton paisley set, so depending on how you like your bed to look, that might make a difference.

I love the roses and prefer them in the reverse with the taupe flowers. That says soft and feminine to me.

They are both lovely! You can't go wrong with either, and I do not think the paisley is too youthful by any means. I feel it is a wonderful design for all ages.

Fun2B, I am glad you mentioned the crispness vs softness. I think that's going to be my deciding point. It's why I like the PB organic duvet covers (I have a few). I love love love the roses pattern but I like duvets because I can just pull them up and the bed looks great-- that's not likely to happen with a cotton/linen.

Thank you, Mayflowers and Mark. Mayflowers, the taupe isn't the reverse. It's a different colorway.

I am a PB duvet lover too and think those are fabulous.. Too young????? Say whaaaaat?. I posted this on another thread but this is our PB Duvet, I'm 56 and didn't even consider it might be too young.. I think you should go for it!!

It's different colors but it's also reversed. With the taupe, the colored flower is on a white background. With the gray, the flower is white on a colored background. Regardless, I prefer the taupe if you're going for feminine.

Lukki,I don't think YOUR pattern looks young! I was speaking only of the pattern above. I have other PB bedding (including a bird pattern which I use in winter/fall).

Ah, I understand what you meant, mayflowers. I don't care for the taupe for my room.. but it is sweet.

I really like the roses! The paisley just doesn't have anything special about it, in my eye.

Love the roses - soft, pretty, and cozy - and summery too.

I loved the paisley until I saw the roses, then I fell in love! You can't go wrong with the roses or the paisley but the roses win hands down!

I have a pine cone hill set that is roses on a blue background but I like your's even better. The blue in the link is a bit misleading as it is a much more greyed down blue but the reason I'm posting is because the reverse side is striped which looks nice as a turned down cuff.

Oh Funky, would the colors in the shams go with your duvet cover?

Thank you all for your feedback and opinions!
Holly, I am concerned about trying to match the Garnet Hill with something online but that pinecone hill sky colorway might work. I love the stripe-- it looks a bit more modern than some of the other stripes I've seen. The color I like in the roses is called "silver" but it seems to be more of a blueish greenish gray (ala Restoration Hardware's silver sage) which is exactly what I want. The natural color it is paired with looks like a flax in some photos and an ivory in others.

I am tempted to order a sham or a pair of pillow cases to test it out.

Meanwhile, the PB set is a set.. ready to go. That's a bonus-- no additional shopping required. But as errant noted, it's not all that remarkable... and I fear I'll gp to sleep each night thinking about the roses.

Holly, do you know of someplace local that carries Pinecone Hill?

I'd like to see the roses on an unmessed bed first. There's really not a whole lot of the pattern showing for the overall effect. Of course it you plan to do the shabby chic unmade look, it doesn't matter.

I don"t know of anyone local but if Neiman Marcus carries it I believe they offer free shipping and returns. I order from them from time to time and they have always been good about returns/exchanges.

i saw that your roses duvet cover was called silver but it looks like a very greyed blue. Maybe you could order the PCH shams and return them if they don't work.

Yes.. that's what I was thinking. Order some shams or pillow covers from a few.

Snookums, I hear you. As I noted above, I like the PB duvets because I can fluff them and pull them up and the bed looks great. I do make my bed each day-- but I am not one of those to MAKE the bed each day. If I can't make the bed look nice in 5-7 min, I'll be disappointed. If I can NEVER make the bed look nice and unrumpled, I won't use them.

FWIW I have used linen duvet covers before and they were awesome. Loved the weight and feel of them and they held their shape. These look softer and thinner than the linens I have.

I can make my bed in less than two minutes. I must not toss and turn because it takes almost no time, including putting the shammed pillows back on the bed.

I don't think you can go wrong with the roses. It is such a lovely feminine print and color. Maybe you could have some custom pillows done in a fabric that you choose after you have the duvet cover in hand. I do like the mix of stripe and floral that I get on my bed with the top of the coverlet cuffed back.

I never actually *timed* my bed making lol.. but there are some fabrics that just never look smooth and "unrumpled". I just don't want to have to fuss with it.

I am going to look around a bit more and then order this weekend.. something or somethings!

You don't? Hmmm, I've always thought that maybe it was a little immature for someone my age but I really love it and figured, who cares?. Actually I bought a second one while it was on sale, so I have two in the same print :c).

I knew you were speaking of the pattern above, the one you're wanting. I wasn't suggesting the birds, I guess my point was, if you like it (and what's not to like, it's really pretty) that's what matters. I've had it for quite some time now and my bird duvet still makes my heart sing!
